Emmanuel International Canada (EIC) is taking part in the nation-wide celebration of International Development. Established 27 years ago by Global Affairs Canada, International Development Week (IDW) is a tradition unique to Canada.
For one short week, organizations and individuals spend time recognizing the contributions that Canadians have made in the name of humanitarian assistance and poverty relief within countless developing nations. This year’s theme is ‘Partners for a Better World’, a key opportunity to encourage all Canadians to be partners in building a better, loving and prosperous world.
EIC has been a longstanding contributor to international development. For almost 40 years, our relief and rehabilitation efforts have helped reduce poverty in many nations. From natural disasters to famine relief to close ties with developing communities, EIC has been an integral part in transforming lives.
Our projects in recent years are just as exciting…
Water and Sanitation – Malawi
If you’ve been with us for a while, you might know of the major Water and Sanitation initiative we completed in Malawi. This project offered hope to thousands of local Malawians through new latrines, wells, and hygiene training. Over the course of 4 years, our donors and partners contributed to providing 92 villages and 12 schools with proper sanitation and a better future. Though we celebrated the completion of this project in early 2017, we will continue to see the countless blessings that were provided to these communities. This Project was undertaken with the financial support of the Government of Canada provided through Global Affairs Canada.
Student Scholarship – Philippines
The gift of education is perhaps the best gift a child can receive. In the Philippines, we’ve been helping provide the tools that students need to complete their education through our Student Scholarship program. Established many years ago through our Philippines office, our donors have helped many students excel their future!
Beekeeping – Tanzania
Another one of our important, ongoing projects is Beekeeping! Incorporating this project with Conservation Agriculture in Tanzania increases crop yields and creates income generation from honey sales and other bee products. We have started beekeeper groups through the churches in the villages of Tanzania. These groups are learning to care for hives and produce honey and wax products as an entrepreneurial investment. It’s incredible to see the way that God has been transforming lives through this ministry, and the support we have through Canadian donors.
PROMISE, Maternal, Newborn and Child Health – MalawiAs you might be aware, EIC is currently in the midst of one of our biggest projects. In a consortium with ADRA Canada and CCF Canada (two other Canadian organizations), we have been working towards reducing the struggle that many African women and children face in childbirth and early years. Through various programs, clinics and donor packages, this project is reaching to thousands of lives. This Project was undertaken with the financial support of the Government of Canada provided through Global Affairs Canada.

Richard McGowan Executive Director Emmanuel International Canada stated, “In light of International Development Week, EIC is excited to be celebrating the countless projects that we are, have, and will be part of. We’ve been blessed through our partners and donors throughout the years. It’s evident through the testimonies we see in the countries we work, we urge you to celebrate with us! Give thanks for the transforming work we see in our projects, and consider this year partnering with us for a better world
