KATY SLININGER - UGANDA

Katy is a college student at Eastern University in Pennsylvania.  In her application to participate in a short term mission opportunity in the summer of 2009 she stated; "I take very seriously the Christian mandate to care for the poor, and I want to work to help the disadvantaged in the world, specifically in African nations.  I am attending Eastern University to study Communications in an attempt to learn about the power of media to bring about social change.  I am studying abroad in Uganda in spring semester 2009 (January 8-May 5), and I am hoping to extend my stay into the summer in order to serve communities as a Christian."

Katy is serving with Emmanuel International Uganda in Pader District, northern Uganda.  She and a Ugandan coworker are primarily working with young girls, emphasizing the importance of schooling and sexual purity until marriage.
